The Texas Pipe Menagerie Park in Houston, Texas is a sculpture garden of eclectic works in metal. Individual diverse works are representative of the real and the surreal, the literal and the abstract. My vision with the Pipe Dreams series was to create images of a fantasy world in a way that would anthropomorphize these inanimate works of art in an impactful and meaningful way. Within the Pipe Dreams series there are unexpected juxtapositions not uncommon to surrealism; examples of tension (“Eagle Flight” and “Widow-maker”) and humor (“Hippo Hitchers”, “Kong Goes Wild” and “Overload”). The only image in the series that is not a composite is a hero shot of the surreal and majestic “Mr. Universe.” The images in this series provide a glimpse into an alternative reality conceived completely within the realm of imagination that would itself be a pipe dream if not for the photographer’s vision and determination to bring life to the dream.
