"Ballard Locks"

The Ballard Locks (officially the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks) in Seattle provides a link for boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of the Ship Canal, which connects eastward to Lake Union and Lake Washington. There aren't any locks located anywhere around Houston where I grew up so having never seen any before I found the locks to be both unique and fascinating. Before Seattle when I thought of locks I thought of huge ships making their way through the Panama Canal, now I think about kayakers out for an evening paddle.
